The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, held a meeting with Senator Talha Muhammad Mahmood, Founder and Chairman of the Pakistani company “Osaka Batteries.”
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on attracting investments from Pakistan to Uzbekistan, prospects for implementing joint projects in the country, as well as other related issues.
Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev provided detailed information about the ongoing socio-economic reforms in Uzbekistan, as well as the favorable conditions created for business and investment activities. It was noted that the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries is steadily growing, becoming an important component of the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
In turn, the Chairman of “Osaka Batteries” expressed interest in establishing long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation with Uzbekistan and put forward an initiative to open a regional office of the company in Tashkent. He also emphasized that the company is planning to supply a wide range of battery products for the automotive, industrial, and energy sectors to Uzbekistan via the Pakistan–Iran–Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan route.
“These products will be re-exported to Central Asian and CIS countries through our office planned to be established in Uzbekistan,” said Talha Mahmood. “We intend to visit Uzbekistan in May this year to discuss in detail the implementation of this project. I believe that our Uzbek partners will support the project we are proposing.”
The Uzbek side expressed its positive assessment of this initiative and confirmed its readiness to provide the necessary organizational and practical support for the company to commence operations in the country.
At the same time, it was noted that cooperation should not be limited to the supply of finished products only, but should also be developed through the production of high value-added goods, the introduction of modern technologies, energy storage systems, lithium-ion solutions, and localization.
This, in turn, will create a foundation for establishing production capacities in Uzbekistan in the future, attracting advanced technologies, and developing industrial cooperation.
At the conclusion of the negotiations, agreements were reached to give practical momentum to future cooperation. In particular, the parties agreed to actively continue dialogue on organizing a visit of the Pakistani company’s delegation to Uzbekistan in May this year and further developing the initiative to open the company’s office in Tashkent.
“Osaka Batteries,” established in 1989, is one of Pakistan’s largest battery manufacturing companies. The company specializes in producing a wide range of battery products for the automotive, industrial, and energy sectors. Its annual turnover amounts to USD 270 million. The company operates 11 production facilities in Pakistan, employing around 4,000 people.
