The progress of work in the field of highways and tasks for the future are considered
On December 9, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation on the ongoing work and future tasks in the field of highways.
Information is provided on the work done over the past three years, the volume of financing and practical results.
During this period, about 40 trillion soums were allocated to the road industry, 63 thousand kilometers of roads were built and repaired. The volume of funds attracted from abroad has tripled and reached $1.2 billion in 2025. Instead of standard templates, design practices have been introduced taking into account the geological and environmental features of each region. Modern types of coatings have been developed, which has increased the service life of roads by 1.5 times.
At the presentation, proposals and plans were presented to solve existing problems in the industry. It is pointed out that there is insufficient use of advanced experience and world-proven technologies in the repair and construction of public roads, internal roads and bridges.
In the coming years, it is planned to build and repair 21 thousand kilometers of roads, cover 14 thousand kilometers of unpaved roads with crushed stone, and repair 325 bridges.
Indicated on the fact that 1,800 kilometers of roads have become worn out due to the movement of trucks weighing more than the norm on them.
In this regard, to ensure weight control of freight transport, it is planned to expand the network of points equipped with measuring instruments. Currently, 9 scales are installed, another 8 such objects are in the process of being equipped. The task has been set to organize another 35 mobile and stationary control and measurement points in the future.
Responsible persons were instructed to implement an interdepartmental electronic information system covering all processes related to weight and dimensional control. In addition, a procedure will be developed for seasonal restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles based on weather conditions.
Currently, 61 percent of new roads and 92 percent of internal roads under the Initiative Budget are built by the private sector. Entrepreneurs are gradually being involved in the process of road maintenance, which has long been a state monopoly.
It is planned to expand this practice and attract entrepreneurs to maintain 3 thousand kilometers of roads next year, and 6.3 thousand kilometers of roads by 2030. In addition, it was noted that the roads that will be built in 86 districts with the participation of the Asian Development Bank should be completely transferred to local contractors.
The low level of digitalization of the sector was indicated - out of 59 existing services, only 20 have been digitalized. Next year, it is planned to transfer another 28 services online, introduce an intelligent transport system and develop 7 new electronic platforms.
At the end of the presentation, it was instructed to develop a Strategy for the Development of Highways of Uzbekistan until 2035 based on the assigned tasks.
