Reported on plans for the development and modernization of the railway industry
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with information about the work carried out in the railway industry and plans for the coming years.
Large-scale transformation processes launched in the railway sector are already producing positive results. The industry completed last year with a net profit for the first time, and in the nine months of this year the net profit exceeded 800 billion soums. The volumes of transit and passenger traffic, exports and investments are growing.
The presentation emphasized the need not to be limited to these results, but to improve the quality and volume of railway transport services in accordance with population and economic growth, as well as to continue to reduce costs in the industry.
In particular, it was noted that the introduction of control based on artificial intelligence at all stages - from transportation accounting to management transport flows, cost analysis and identification of possible losses will reduce costs by 20 percent.
It is noted that in 2026–2030 the volume of passenger and freight traffic should be increased at least twice.
To achieve this goal, it is planned to build 151 kilometers of new ones and electrify 182 kilometers of existing ones railway tracks, as well as the modernization of 27 existing stations and 1 thousand kilometers of railways.
In particular, new electrified railway lines will be built on the routes “Nurafshan - Pskent - Buka - Bekabad - Bayavut - Yangier” and “Khavast - Dashtabad”. It is planned to electrify the Kumkurgan-Kudukli, Samarkand-Urgut and Baytkurgan-Parkent routes, as well as increase the capacity of the Tashkent-Samarkand, Tukimachi-Angren and Angren-Pap routes.
To enhance the services of suburban railway transportation, it is proposed to open 15 new routes in addition to the existing 40.
In particular, the organization of suburban services on such routes as “Tashkent - Nurafshan - Akhangaran - Angren”, “Navoi - Zarafshan - Uchkuduk”, “Kagan - Namangan – Andijan – Margilan”, “Termez – Kumkurgan – Baysun – Darband”, “Nukus – Shavat – Urgench – Khiva”, “Jizzakh – Dustlik – Aydar-Arnasay”, “Karshi – Shakhrisabz” will create favorable conditions for daily travel of the population.
The meeting also discussed the issue of expanding the network for high-speed trains. It was instructed to speed up the commissioning of the 102-kilometer Navoi-Bukhara railway line. It was noted that the launch of this line will significantly reduce the time and costs of freight and passenger transportation.
Plans have also been outlined to expand the fleet of locomotives and cars for new routes being opened and under construction in the coming years.
In particular, it is planned to purchase 38 mainline, 50 shunting and hybrid shunting cars from China locomotives. It was entrusted, together with the Korean company Hyundai Rotem, to deliver 6 high-speed electric trains and put the first of them into operation on the Tashkent-Urgench-Khiva route next year. It is expected that this will reduce travel time from the current 14 hours to 7.5 hours.
In addition, conditions for passenger transportation will be expanded through the production of 250 modern passenger cars and the acquisition of 23 intercity electric trains. The tasks have been set to produce 10 thousand, restore more than 6 thousand freight cars and overhaul 12 electric locomotives.
The need to expand public-private partnership projects in the railway industry was also noted.
