An international scientific and practical conference on water diplomacy will be held in Tashkent
On April 10 of this year, an International scientific and practical conference will be held in Tashkent on the topic: “Water diplomacy in Central Asia: trust, dialogue and multilateral cooperation in the interests of sustainable development.”
The event is organized by the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan and the National Research University "TIIIMSH" with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the International Institute for Water Resources Management, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the German Society for International Cooperation.
A unique platform will unite from above 100 participants from more than 10 countries and for the first time will bring together on one platform prominent experts from all states of the Aral Sea basin, including specialists from strategic institutions and water management departments of Central Asia, Afghanistan, as well as Asia, Europe, the CIS, etc.
The conference will also be attended by representatives of diplomatic missions in Uzbekistan and delegations from about 15 international and regional organizations, including the UN Regional Center on Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC), the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission (SIC ICWC), the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), etc.
The focus of experts is water diplomacy, which has recently years has become the most important tool for promoting an effective model for the development of water cooperation in Central Asia. In this regard, interesting discussions and a productive exchange of views are expected with the development of a number of proposals and recommendations to expand this area of cooperation.
The conference will be a significant contribution of the Central Asian countries to the development of the conceptual foundations of water diplomacy, strengthening their position as active participants in the formation of the international water cooperation agenda.
The forum will be held on the basis of the National Research University "TIIIMSKh" as part of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of a unique educational institution, which will be attended by about 300 domestic and foreign scientists from more than 20 countries of the world.
