Uzbek-Turkmen negotiations were fruitful in Samarkand
The national leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived on April 23 on a visit to Uzbekistan.
At the international airport of Samarkand, solemnly decorated with the national flags of the two countries, the distinguished guest was met by the head of our state.
In accordance with the program of stay, a bilateral meeting and joint participation in cultural events are provided.

On April 24, at the Congress Center of the Silk Road Samarkand complex, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held negotiations in a limited format and with the participation of official delegations.
At the beginning of the meeting, the leader of Turkmenistan conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the head of our state.
Current issues of further development and strengthening of Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership were considered.
The dynamic development of multifaceted cooperation in all areas of interaction was noted with deep satisfaction, including in the political, interparliamentary, trade-economic, transport-communications and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
A fruitful dialogue is maintained at all levels. Meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, Business Council, Forum of Regions, cultural days, exhibitions, etc. are regularly held. Last year, mutual trade turnover amounted to $1.1 billion. Trading houses have been established in the capitals, and cargo transportation volumes are growing. The goal has been set to increase trade volumes to $2 billion in the coming years.
Mutually beneficial cooperation is developing in the fields of energy, transport, agriculture and water management, and other sectors of the economy. The Shavat-Dashoguz border trade zone is being jointly created.
Active interregional contacts have been established, a rich program of cultural and humanitarian exchange is being implemented.
An agreement has been reached to hold the third Forum of Regions in the city of Khiva and the Days of Culture of Turkmenistan in Uzbekistan this year.
The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan also exchanged views on the regional partnership agenda, including the preparation of the upcoming summits in the “Central Asia Plus” format and the seventh Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Tashkent.
The head of our state especially noted the importance of the upcoming Forum in Ashgabat in December this year within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations
on the initiative of Turkmenistan, as well as other international events.
During the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan presented the National Leader of the Turkmen people with a copy of his book “The Pearl of Reason” in the Uzbek language, published in our country.

At the end of the bilateral negotiations, a solemn ceremony was held to present the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the highest state award of the Republic of Uzbekistan - the Order of “Oliy Darazhali Dustlik.”
When presenting the award, the head of our state especially noted the enormous merits of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in strengthening the traditional relations of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership between the two fraternal countries.
– All grandiose achievements, large-scale transformations and the growth of the authority of fraternal Turkmenistan in the international arena are firmly connected with your name, the President of Uzbekistan emphasized.
Turkmenistan is ensuring sustainable economic growth and the well-being of the population is steadily improving. The leader of our country especially highlighted the international initiatives of the National Leader of the Turkmen people aimed at ensuring global security and sustainable development.
In this regard, it was noted that Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s proposal to declare 2025 the Year of Peace and Trust received wide international support.
It was emphasized that thanks to the personal efforts of the leader of Turkmenistan Uzbek-Turkmen relations have reached the highest level today, becoming in fact exemplary.
– Thanks to your personal support, strong foundations for the strategic partnership of our countries were laid in 2017, noted Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Active contacts at the level of parliaments, governments, regions, business, public, intelligentsia and youth of our countries, implementation of programs and projects of trade and economic cooperation. Thus, in recent years alone, trade turnover has increased significantly and exceeded $1 billion.
Cultural and humanitarian interaction deserves high praise. In this context, the presentation of a collection of Magtymguly’s works in the Uzbek language last year in Ashgabat and Tashkent, as well as the premiere of a joint Uzbek-Turkmen feature film at the international film festival in Ashgabat, were highlighted.
It was emphasized that the awarding of the highest award of the Republic of Uzbekistan was an expression of sincere respect of the multinational Uzbek people for Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as an outstanding statesman, National leader and architect of modern Turkmenistan.

The ceremony became a symbol of the growing centuries-old friendship and good neighborliness of two fraternal peoples, a strong commitment to the further development of Uzbek-Turkmen strategic partnership relations.

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev together with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the exhibition “Mirages of Time”, organized at the international tourist center in Samarkand.
The guests were presented with the main element of the exhibition - the night desert, in the starry sky above which the signs of the Zodiac appear, Ulugbek’s star map, meridians. The viewer walks through the dunes like a caravan along the Great Silk Road. Along the route, like clockwork, a complete account of the history of the development of civilization is created.
Also shown are scenes with the participation of Uzbek and Turkmen performers playing the dutar and tambour, reading poems by the great poets Navoi and Magtymguly.
The innovative presentation widely used special effects and theatrical performances, which aroused great interest among visitors.

During the two-day program of the stay, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the distinguished guest held bilateral negotiations, visited the historical and ethnographic complex “Eternal City” and got acquainted with the exhibition “Mirages of Time”.
The ceremony of awarding the National Leader of the Turkmen people with the Order “Oliy Darazhali” took place Dustlik" of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
After the completion of the visit, the distinguished guest was greeted by the head of our state at Samarkand International Airport.
Then President Shavkat Mirziyoyev returned to Tashkent.
