Uzbekistan and Qatar set a course for strengthening tourism ties
In recent years, Uzbekistan and Qatar are increasingly drawing closer together in the field of tourism, turning mutual interest into real joint projects. Tourism is becoming not just a sector of the economy, but a bridge between cultures - an opportunity for the peoples of two countries to get to know each other better, to discover the wealth of history, spiritual traditions and modern appearance.
The basis of relations is a memorandum of understanding signed between the governments of the two countries in 2010. This document was the first step towards a systemic dialogue, and subsequent years showed the parties’ readiness to fill cooperation with concrete content.
Step by step, interaction in the tourism sector is becoming more sustainable, and in 2025 it has reached a qualitatively new level. One of the key decisions was the introduction of a visa-free regime for Qatari citizens for up to thirty days. This has become an important aspect of expanding tourist exchanges and confirming the country's openness to guests from the Persian Gulf.
Active interaction in the tourism sector is maintained at a high level. In recent years, Uzbekistan has repeatedly presented its potential at international venues in Doha, participating in exhibitions, forums and presentations. The country's national stands arouse keen interest among tourism market professionals and a wide audience. They demonstrate everything that Uzbekistan is famous for: ancient cities, UNESCO World Heritage sites, crafts, gastronomy and the hospitable atmosphere of oriental culture.
In 2025, the international tourism forum “Uzbekistan - Qatar”, held in Doha in the summer, occupied a special place in the calendar of bilateral events. The forum has become an important platform for exchanging experiences, establishing partnerships and discussing joint projects in the field of tourism. Representatives of travel companies, air carriers and hotel businesses from both countries discussed the prospects for promoting routes, organizing promotional tours and developing infrastructure. As a result of the meetings, agreements were reached on joint initiatives aimed at increasing the number of tourists and increasing the recognition of Uzbekistan in the Qatari market.
Along with business formats, image and cultural projects are actively developing. At the initiative of the Committee for Tourism and the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Qatar, a large-scale media project was launched in Doha in 2025: videos about Uzbekistan were shown on huge LED screens on the central streets of the city. The shots include the majestic domes of Samarkand and Bukhara, mountain landscapes, vibrant bazaars and modern Tashkent. This visual campaign became part of the strategy to create an attractive image of the country and strengthen cultural ties between peoples.
Uzbekistan’s participation in major international exhibitions in Qatar is also of significant interest. The countries' stands traditionally present tourist routes, pilgrimage and gastronomic tourism destinations, projects in the field of ecotourism and cultural heritage. Guests of the events note the combination of authenticity and a modern approach, thanks to which Uzbekistan is perceived as a dynamically developing destination that can surprise and inspire.
Qatari audiences are increasingly paying attention to Uzbekistan as a new point of attraction for travelers. This is facilitated by active work to promote the country in the Arab media and digital space.
The development of cultural exchange deserves special attention. Holding thematic exhibitions, gastronomic festivals and weeks of Uzbek culture in Doha creates a solid basis for humanitarian cooperation. These initiatives provide an opportunity not only to talk about the country’s tourism opportunities, but also strengthen mutual understanding and respect between peoples.
A new model of cooperation is gradually being formed, in which tourism becomes not just a sphere of the economy, but an important tool of public diplomacy. Through travel, joint projects and exchange of experience, Uzbekistan and Qatar reveal to each other their traditions, modernity and the potential of the future.
The development of tourism ties between the two countries is part of a broader trend of Uzbekistan’s rapprochement with the Gulf countries. Common values of hospitality, interest in cultural roots and the desire to build bridges between the East and Central Asia create a stable basis for long-term partnership.
Uzbekistan and Qatar today are not just developing tourism - they are creating a space of trust, exchange and inspiration. And this dialogue of cultures, which began with diplomatic agreements, is gradually turning into a living history of interaction between people, traditions and ideas, uniting the two countries and opening new horizons for future cooperation.
