Uzbekistan and Mauritius intend to expand trade, economic and tourism cooperation

Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev held a meeting with Mauritius’ Ambassador to Pakistan, Munsoo Kurrimbaccus.

At the beginning of the meeting, information was presented on Uzbekistan’s rich historical and cultural heritage, socio-economic reforms, economic growth rates, as well as the conditions and opportunities being created for foreign investors and entrepreneurs.

The two sides then discussed prospects for developing bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Mauritius, with particular attention to expanding cooperation in tourism, trade and economic relations, and investment.

The Ambassador of Mauritius emphasized that strengthening cooperation with Uzbekistan is a priority for his country’s leadership.

“It is very important for us to establish direct contacts with the Uzbek side,” Ambassador Munsoo Kurrimbaccus noted. “In this regard, direct flights between Port Louis and Tashkent are planned to be launched from December this year. The opening of this route will create additional opportunities for the development of tourism, business travel, the expansion of humanitarian ties, as well as an increase in the volume of mutual trade between Uzbekistan and Mauritius.”

During the negotiations, particular attention was paid to the development of halal tourism. It was noted that Mauritius has a significant Muslim population and that there is growing interest in expanding tourist routes to countries with well-developed halal tourism infrastructure. From this perspective, Uzbekistan, with its rich historical and Islamic heritage, is regarded as a promising destination.

The parties also exchanged views on establishing exports of halal meat and sausage products from Uzbekistan to the Mauritian market.

In this regard, Mauritius is of interest not only as a promising market for Uzbek products, but also as a potential platform for Uzbek producers to access the markets of African countries.

Following the meeting, the parties supported proposals to organize mutual visits by business delegations, hold online meetings between tourism organizations of the two countries, and conduct joint tourism presentations and events in a “roadshow” format.
