The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher To‘khtaev, held online talks with Shahab Kohar, Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistani company Remington Pharmaceutical.
The meeting was organized with the aim of further developing trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, as well as agreeing on new joint projects.
During the negotiations, the parties discussed prospects for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, as well as opportunities for implementing investment projects within Uzbekistan.
It was particularly emphasized that demand for modern, high-quality, and affordable medicines in the Uzbek market is steadily increasing, creating new opportunities for foreign investors.
The Pakistani representative was provided with detailed information about the current state of Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical sector, ongoing reforms aimed at its modernization, government programs focused on expanding production capacity, and the favorable conditions created for foreign investors. Special attention was given to tax and customs incentives, opportunities available in specialized pharmaceutical free economic zones in Uzbekistan, and mechanisms for supporting investment projects.
Shahab Kohar noted that the company he leads has a strong interest in entering the Uzbek and broader Central Asian markets. According to him, the company is currently actively cooperating with more than 20 countries worldwide and focuses primarily on the production of generic medicines and the development of ophthalmic products.

It was highlighted that the company is proposing a phased strategy for entering the Uzbek market.
“We aim to enter the Uzbek market in a consistent and step-by-step manner,” said Shahab Kohar. “At the first stage, we plan to establish the supply of finished pharmaceutical products and arrange for their registration in the local market. At the next stage, we will thoroughly explore opportunities to establish joint production facilities within the country. This will further strengthen bilateral cooperation.”
The meeting also addressed issues of cooperation in quality control, certification of pharmaceutical products, optimization of logistics chains, and other areas.
An agreement was reached to organize additional online negotiations involving relevant ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan to further discuss the proposals and initiatives put forward by the Pakistani side.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized that the entry of Remington Pharmaceutical into the Uzbek market would contribute to elevating Uzbekistan–Pakistan cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector to a new level.
