Proposals to strengthen seismic safety were considered
On May 13, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the presentation of proposals to strengthen seismic safety measures.
The country is undergoing large-scale construction work. Since 2017, 11,410 apartment buildings have been built, which helps solve housing issues and improve the living conditions of the population.
Seismology, one of the most important areas in construction, is also actively developing. In this area, special attention is paid to cooperation with foreign research centers and the introduction of innovative technologies. In addition, Uzbekistan is an initiator in many areas of international cooperation.
As you know, on April 26, 1966, a devastating earthquake occurred in Tashkent. The President of Uzbekistan took the initiative to establish a Day of Remembrance and Solidarity to honor the memory of earthquake victims and recall the need for international cooperation in this area. In recognition of this initiative, the UN General Assembly recently adopted a resolution declaring April 29 as the International Day of Remembrance for Victims of Earthquakes.
In order to comply with international standards in this area, the head of state has set the task of increasing attention to the quality of new buildings. In this regard, measures are being taken to improve the seismic resistance of apartment buildings and ensure the safety of the population during earthquakes.
In particular, on-site studies were carried out with the participation of specialists from state design institutes. Based on the results of these studies and analysis of the seismic situation in the regions, proposals have been developed for further improvement of the seismic safety system.
It is planned to introduce a new practice of inspecting buildings with the involvement of foreign specialists. The exchange of experience on the construction of residential buildings resistant to earthquakes and other natural disasters will be expanded. It is also planned to conduct instrumental and technical inspections of buildings to identify and eliminate deficiencies.
Based on the results of these activities and taking into account international experience, changes will be made to regulatory documents on the assessment of seismic risk, impact and threats.
The President emphasized that quality and safety in construction should be a priority, and gave instructions for the scientific development of this area and the introduction of modern approaches in the industry.
