The President of Uzbekistan took part in ceremonial events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the invitation of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, took part in the ceremonial events on May 9 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War II.
The Victory Parade took place on Red Square. The event was also attended by President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, President of Brazil Lula da Silva, President of Egypt Abdelfattah el-Sisi, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro and others.
Victory in World War II is the result of the courage, resilience and dedication of millions of people. The multinational people of Uzbekistan also made a significant contribution to achieving this great goal.
At the start of the war, the population of our country was over 6 million people. During the war years, about two million Uzbek citizens were sent to the front. More than 538 thousand gave their lives on the battlefields, over 158 thousand were missing.
For their courage and valor, more than 214 thousand soldiers and officers from Uzbekistan were awarded military orders and medals. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded to 301 of our compatriots, another 70 became full holders of the Order of Glory.
The labor feat of the Uzbek people is no less significant. Our country became a reliable support for the front: food, uniforms, medicine, weapons and other necessary resources were continuously sent from here. In the shortest possible time, over 170 evacuated enterprises were located on the territory of Uzbekistan, ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the defense industry.
In those difficult years, the people of Uzbekistan showed a high example of humanism, accepting over 1.5 million evacuees from the front-line territories, including more than 250 thousand orphans.
The feat of the Uzbek people during the war years is widely recognized in the international community.
In our country is also doing a lot of work to perpetuate the memory of front-line heroes and home front workers, special attention is paid to social support for veterans. A majestic memorial complex “Victory Park” has been created in Tashkent.
At the end of the Victory Parade, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, accompanied by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and other heads of state, laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden.
This memorial erected in memory of millions of soldiers, including the sons of Uzbekistan, who showed unparalleled courage and gave their lives in the name of Victory, is a symbol of perseverance, heroism and selfless feat of the defenders of the Motherland.
The ceremony ended with a minute of silence and a solemn march of the honor guard company and military band.
