Festive greetings to the people of Uzbekistan
Dear compatriots!
I heartily congratulate you, all our people, all compatriots abroad on the Uzbek Language Festival, which has taken a strong place in the socio-political life of New Uzbekistan.
On this significant day I want to emphasize: thanks to the truly historic reforms that we began in the country eight years ago, a new period in the development of the Uzbek language has begun. Based on the adopted targeted decrees, resolutions and programs, we have carried out a lot of work to strengthen its role and status as a state language, turning it into the language of modern science and knowledge, information technology and international relations.
In particular, in our country we are consistently continuing to bring the names of geographical objects into compliance with the norms of the state language. To date, the names of about 250 thousand geographical objects, including more than 200 thousand streets, have been harmonized and included in the register. Based on the requirements of the state language, over the past two years alone, 2,600 objects have been renamed - such as mountains and ridges, rivers, lakes and reservoirs, mineral deposits, metro stations, railway stations and stations, airports and bus stations.
Today, as a result of the rapid processes of globalization and scientific achievements, many new concepts and terms appear in our lives. In order to borrow them in accordance with the clear rules and principles of our language, as well as to conduct language policy on a scientific basis in a centralized manner, the activities of the Terms Commission have been strengthened. Noteworthy are the introduction of an effective mechanism for replacing foreign words and phrases with Uzbek ones with the participation of the general public, scientists and specialists, the development of special software for using the capabilities of artificial intelligence, and the creation of electronic sources.
In this regard, I consider it appropriate to say once again: our young generation, who are the future, must necessarily study foreign languages in order to master modern knowledge, innovations and achieve high standards. However, for education in the national spirit, the formation of national thinking, patriotism, young people must first of all deeply master the Uzbek language and literature from childhood.
Based on this, we attach great importance to improving the teaching of the Uzbek language. Starting this year, Uzbek language teachers who have the appropriate national certificate are paid a monthly salary bonus of 50 percent; in schools where instruction is conducted in another language, graduates of the 11th grade are being introduced to take a final exam in the state language, which has become an important step in this direction.
Strengthening the status of the Uzbek language as a state language is also served by the official requirement for its knowledge when applying citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Over the past period, the Foundation for the Development of the Uzbek Language under the Cabinet of Ministers has published encyclopedias, dictionaries and manuals of 72 titles in thousands of copies and transferred to government organizations and educational institutions. Especially the friends of the Uzbek language, whose ranks are growing, were pleased with the transfer to the libraries of leading foreign universities, centers and clubs of the Uzbek language in the world of the six-volume Explanatory Dictionary of the Uzbek Language, the four-volume “Alisher Navoi Encyclopedia”, the five-volume “Navoi Language Dictionary” and other publications.
We have also successfully introduced the principles of building an inclusive society into the state language policy and attach great importance to the development of the native languages of representatives of different nations and nationalities living in our country. At the same time, we are creating the necessary conditions for them to learn the state language. The result of our joint efforts is that today the Uzbek language as a state language serves to unite our multinational people.
Dear friends!
I would like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to the urgent tasks facing us to further strengthen the role and authority of the Uzbek language in the life of society, its wide popularization in the world.
First of all, the timely and effective implementation of the main tasks provided for by the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On additional measures for the further development of the state language,” which was adopted on the eve of the current holiday, is important. In the implementation of the Implementation Program approved by him in 2025-2026, the Concept for the development of the Uzbek language and improving language policy in 2020-2030, not only responsible organizations, but also all of us are called upon to actively participate.
When it comes to this, it should be noted that the focus should also be on increasing the volume in the digital space of high-quality, scientifically based, educational information and information on Uzbek language, in particular, replenishing global electronic encyclopedias and platforms with popular science articles in the state language, improving online dictionaries. The influence of artificial intelligence is increasing in our lives, so the need of the hour is to develop and popularize our native language also through this powerful tool.
Creation of attractive national brands based on the rich capabilities of the Uzbek language that meet the mentality of our people, promotion of domestic products to foreign markets should become the main focus in the field of marketing. I am confident that our entrepreneurs will show patriotism and their abilities in this area.
Revision of the basic spelling rules of the Uzbek language, adopted thirty years ago, is also among our urgent tasks. Along with this, it is necessary to increase the production of modern and effective media products aimed at improving the language culture and literacy of the population, especially young people. Teaching our children to respect their native language and introducing it to its incomparable riches and opportunities is an integral part of the spiritual and moral education of the younger generation. This pressing issue should be the focus of attention of the creative intelligentsia, representatives of the spheres of education and upbringing, culture, youth, mahalla, women's organizations, the media and turn into a national movement.
In a word, as in all areas, in the development of our native language we rely on practical proposals and opinions, the active participation of the general public.
Dear compatriots!
Once again, I congratulate you on today’s holiday, I wish you all health, peace and prosperity for your families.
Let the wealth and beauty of the Uzbek language, the source of our strength and national identity, increase!
