During their visit to Lahore, a delegation led by Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan Farhod Ermanov and Ambassador of Uzbekistan Alisher To'xtayev toured the production facilities of CCL Pharma, Pharmagen Limited, Bio Science Pharma, Don Valley Ltd., and Highnoon Laboratories.
During meetings with the executives of these companies, the parties held comprehensive discussions on further strengthening pharmaceutical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, establishing joint manufacturing facilities, and localizing the production of medicines currently imported from abroad.
The Pakistani side was briefed on the favorable investment climate created for foreign investors in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the ongoing economic reforms, and the incentives and preferences offered to foreign pharmaceutical companies investing in the region.
The delegation also highlighted Karakalpakstan's demand for pharmaceutical products, the potential of its domestic market, and the existing opportunities in the sector. It was noted that the majority of pharmaceutical products consumed in the republic are currently imported from Russia, China, India, and European countries. In this regard, the establishment of modern pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, the production of import-substituting medicines, and the attraction of Pakistan's leading pharmaceutical companies to the region were emphasized as strategic priorities.
At the conclusion of the meetings, the parties agreed to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, jointly develop and implement investment projects, and maintain regular practical dialogue in the future.
In particular, Junaid Shafi, Head of CCL Pharma, fondly recalled his visit to Uzbekistan in 2024, during which he became closely acquainted with the investment opportunities and favorable business environment at Tashkent Pharma Park.
According to him, Uzbekistan's reforms aimed at developing the pharmaceutical industry, attracting foreign investors, and providing them with extensive support and incentives are truly commendable.
«The proposals presented to us regarding the implementation of joint pharmaceutical projects in the Republic of Karakalpakstan are highly attractive. To explore these opportunities in greater detail, we are ready to visit Uzbekistan, including the Republic of Karakalpakstan, later this year», he said.
