On June 10, 2026, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with Mahir Safarli, Regional Representative for Central Asia of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
On June 10, 2026, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with Mahir Safarli, Regional Representative for Central Asia of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
During the meeting, the parties discussed priority areas of cooperation, as well as Uzbekistan’s role in providing humanitarian and social assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
Mahir Safarli highly appreciated the capabilities of the transport and logistics infrastructure established in the city of Termez and expressed interest in continuing bilateral cooperation aimed at supporting the people of Afghanistan.
The UNHCR representative expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for its continued support of the organization’s activities, as well as for its ongoing care and attention to the people of neighboring Afghanistan.
The parties particularly emphasized that the Uzbekistan–Afghanistan border currently serves as a reliable corridor for the delivery of humanitarian cargo by UN agencies.
