As noted, the creation of a holistic system of sports training has begun to bring practical results. Population coverage by mass sports has reached 15 million people, and the number of citizens regularly involved in sports has increased almost 1.5 times in recent years.
In 2025, the country's athletes showed good results on the international stage. In particular, the youth team took 13th place at the World Universiade, 2nd place at the Youth Games in Bahrain and the Islamic Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia, as well as 1st place at the Para-Asian Youth Games in the UAE.
The national football team for the first time won a ticket to the World Cup. Chess player Zhavohir Sindarov will take part in the Candidates Tournament for the world chess crown.
At the same time, it was emphasized that one cannot limit oneself to the achieved results, it is necessary to make full use of the existing opportunities and created conditions. It was noted that the current indicators for a number of sports do not yet fully correspond to the existing infrastructure and potential.
In this regard, the task has been outlined in the near future to increase the coverage of mass sports to 17 million people.
To form a worthy reserve for international sports games and Olympics, the implementation of an open and transparent selection system continues within the framework of the Presidential Olympics.
103 thousand athletes took part in the first cycle of competitions, and at the final stage more than 3 thousand athletes in 11 sports competed for 135 gold, 134 silver and 227 bronze medals.
It was instructed to hold competitions twice a year, organize them in the regions among the age category 13-14 years, and also gradually increase the number of sports to 20.
It was separately noted that the commissioning of the Olympic village and the National Football Center became an important milestone in the history of domestic sports. Currently, 17 Olympic sports federations and other sports organizations have moved to the Olympic Village. It was emphasized that these complexes should become a symbol of Uzbek sports and a unified sports cluster.
Particular attention is paid to the issues of a scientific approach to the development of sports. It is noted that achieving high results is associated not only with infrastructure and competitions, but also with the systematic development of all areas of sports science.
In this regard, tasks are outlined for the widespread implementation of modern approaches in the field of sports pharmacology, nutrition, functional and physical training, rehabilitation, as well as individual load planning. The need to intensify research work, introduce advanced developments and the results of the latest research into practice, as well as strengthen the exchange of experience through scientific forums and conferences at the national and international levels was emphasized.
It was also noted that the private sector and investors should be more widely involved in the development of sports, supporting investment projects in the field of sports infrastructure, training centers and the sports services market.
The need to ensure accessibility of sports schools at the community level, strengthening the system of early identification of talented youth and their targeted training was especially emphasized.
International sports events planned to be held in January of this year in Tashkent were reported.
In particular, a meeting of the Executive Bureau of the World Swimming Federation and a meeting of the World Swimming Federation are planned Central Asian Regional Anti-Doping Agency (RADOCA) and the international forum, as well as the 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia.
The Olympic Council of Asia was created in 1982, coordinates the Olympic movement on the Asian continent and unites the national Olympic committees of 45 countries. Within the framework of the General Assembly, it is planned to determine the main directions of the Olympic movement in Asia and conduct elections of the President of the Council.
The participation of representatives of the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Council of Asia, WADA, heads of international sports federations and other prestigious sports organizations is expected - in total more than 360 foreign guests.
The Head of State instructed to ensure thorough preparations for holding these events at a high organizational level level.
It is noted that in recent years, Uzbekistan has occupied a stable and strong position in wrestling both in the region and in the world. In order to further popularize this area, it is planned to create a Regional Academy of Combat Sports.
Starting this year, the President's Cup, the Uzbekiston Botirlari tournament, the Prosecutor General's Cup, as well as wrestling competitions among military personnel will be held on an ongoing basis. In 2026, in schools being built in the regions, along with national kurash, the training of athletes in Greco-Roman, freestyle and women's wrestling will begin. By the end of the year, wrestling clubs will be opened in at least one school in every district and city.
The head of our state was also presented with information about the participation of the delegation of Uzbekistan in the XXV Winter Olympic Games, which will be held this year in Italy.
The President of our country gave instructions to responsible persons to ensure the full and high-quality implementation of the assigned tasks, the popularization of sports and the achievement of stable results in the international arena.
