At the session of the Samarkand regional kengash, the organizational issue was considered and tasks for the future were identified
On November 25, an extraordinary session of the Samarkand Regional Kengash of People's Deputies was held. The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in it.
At the beginning of his speech, the head of state expressed satisfaction with the meeting with the public of the region and noted the results achieved, as well as the opportunities that remain to be realized.
- Samarkand, which has absorbed a thousand-year history and rich traditions, is being transformed every day thanks to modern architectural approaches and strengthens its place in world civilization, said the President.
In particular, the creation of the "Eternal City" complex, the improvement of more than 40 shrines, the construction of a new international airport in Samarkand, the commissioning of dozens of hotels of international brands have brought the tourism potential of the region to a new level.
In recent years, Samarkand has become a political, economic, tourist and business center, a platform for many international events and forums and conferences. This year alone, more than 40 prestigious international events were held here, and the recent 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference was truly historic.
In total, $1 billion of investment was attracted into tourism and related industries. As a result, the tourist flow to the region increased sevenfold compared to 2016, and the export of tourism services reached $600 million.
Today Samarkand is becoming attractive not only for tourists, but also for investors and entrepreneurs, thanks to the huge potential of industry, agriculture and the service sector.
Over the past eight years, $12 billion of investment has been attracted to the region, 600 thousand permanent jobs have been created, and the number of entrepreneurs has doubled. The number of manufacturing enterprises increased by 1.5 times, the volume of industry - by 1.7 times. The number of enterprises with an annual turnover of over 100 billion soums has reached 81. Investors from 55 countries have started operations in the region, and the number of enterprises with foreign participation is close to 700.
The service sector is growing by 15 percent annually, and this year the volume of services will reach 75 trillion soums.
In addition, in 2024 and over the past ten months, 15 million square meters of housing and commercial properties have been built. Samarkand builders annually erect 4.5 million square meters of buildings and structures throughout the republic.
The region's gross regional product increased from 23 trillion soums in 2016 to 120 trillion soums this year.
Residents note that thanks to the work performed, significant positive changes have occurred in the lives of families.
For example, during this period, 3,200 kilometers of water supply and sewerage networks were built worth 2 trillion soums.
The President emphasized that Samarkand was able to be turned into an attractive territory both for the population and entrepreneurs, as well as for tourists and investors.
In the Urgut region, which is the most densely populated in the republic, home to more than 600 thousand people.
This area has been the leader in agriculture in the region for many years. The creation of the Urgut Free Economic Zone on hilly and rocky terrain and the launch of 74 projects worth $860 million have transformed the area into an industrialized area.
Industrial development has become a powerful stimulus for trade and services. Today Urgut ranks third in the region in industry and fourth in service.
Today another historical event took place in Urgut - a 55-kilometer railway line was put into operation. Work on its electrification will be completed next year. This will create additional amenities for the population and open up new opportunities in industry, agriculture and the service sector.
It was noted that residents of the area have long been awaiting solutions to issues related to housing, sewerage, drinking water, schools, kindergartens, medical institutions and business infrastructure. In this regard, the President signed a decree on transforming the center of Urgut into one of the most modern and attractive cities in the country in the spirit of New Uzbekistan.
A modern eco-city for 100 thousand inhabitants will be built on an area of 90 hectares adjacent to the Kuyi Kamangaron mahalla. $50 million will be allocated for the construction of roads, drinking water, sewerage, electrical networks, schools, kindergartens, medical institutions and other infrastructure.
A single administrative center for 35 district organizations will be built on a 3-hectare site. The vacated buildings will be offered to the private sector.
Another important news - 17.5 thousand hectares of the territories of Okdaryo, Payaryk, Pastdargom, Tailak and Samarkand districts will be annexed to the city of Samarkand. As a result, the city's population will increase from 604 thousand to 882 thousand people.
In this regard, to meet the growing demand for modern housing, three large areas of the city of Samarkand have been identified: housing for 180 thousand people will be built on the Shirin area, for 100 thousand on Temiryul Orti, for 30 thousand on Korasuv-2.
There will be More than 700 modern apartment buildings, schools, kindergartens, a higher education institution, a hospital, modern business and shopping centers, hotels and recreation areas were built. Together with Spanish investors, the sewerage system of these areas will be updated in the format of a public-private partnership.
To reduce the movement of freight transport around the city, four logistics centers will be built along the highway passing through Akdarya, Tailak and the Samarkand region.
Using the example of Urgut, the head of state analyzed the capabilities of the region and put it to the ministers and khokims specific tasks for the next year.
At the session, the organizational issue was also considered.
The President noted that the country sets itself big goals - raising the honor and dignity of a person, sustainable economic growth and improving the well-being of the population. To fulfill these tasks, the region needs a leader who thinks modernly, capable of systematically analyzing problems and proposing innovative solutions.
The President proposed the candidacy of Adiz Boboev, acting khokim of the region, for the post of khokim of the Samarkand region.
After hearing the opinions of the activists, the issue was put to a vote. Based on its results, Adiz Boboev was approved for the post of regional khokim.
At the end of the meeting, the head of state heard the reports and plans of those responsible.
