A session dedicated to the Termez Dialogue on Connectivity will be held at the Doha Forum between Central and South Asia
On December 7, 2025, within the framework of the annual Doha Forum, a separate session will be held dedicated to the Termez Dialogue on Connectivity between Central and South Asia under motto: “Rebuilding Afghanistan through regional connectivity: Termez Dialogue.”
The event is organized by the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan (ISRS) together with the Center for International and Regional Studies affiliated with Georgetown University in Qatar.
Termez Dialogue, launched in May 2025 in the city of Termez, is a permanent platform for the practical promotion of the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to strengthen the interconnectedness between Central and South Asia - an initiative supported by a special resolution of the UN General Assembly dated July 11, 2022.
Today, in the context of profound geopolitical changes, the revival of historical ties between Central and South Asia becomes an objective necessity. Interconnectedness, cooperation, dialogue and trust are key conditions for ensuring security, stability and sustainable development in this strategically important macro-region.
Afghanistan occupies a special place in these processes. Due to its geographical location, the country is a natural bridge between the two regions. The development of pragmatic cooperation, the expansion of economic ties and the involvement of Afghanistan in interregional processes are considered as the most important factor in the formation of long-term stability and peaceful development throughout Central and South Asia.
The agenda of the upcoming session will be devoted to these issues. Participants will discuss Afghanistan's role in ensuring transregional connectivity, as well as practical steps to support sustainable socio-economic development in a broader regional context.
The session will be moderated by Zahra Babar, Director of the Center for International and Regional Studies at Georgetown University in Qatar.
The discussion will include:
- special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev;
- Director of ISMI Eldor Aripov;
- Director of the Center for Strategic Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan Abdul Hay Kanit;
- Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Faisal Abdullah Al-Henzab;
– Professor of History at Georgetown University in Qatar Waleed Ziad.
We would like to remind you that the Doha Forum has been held since 2002 with the support of the Qatari government and is an authoritative platform for discussing current global issues.
In 2025, the forum will be held under the theme “Justice
in action: from promises to progress."
About 8 thousand people from approximately 150 countries are expected to participate, including management and specialists from leading think tanks in the US, UK, Russia, EU countries, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, China, Japan and Korea.
