Continuing his visit to Kashkadarya region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited a modern seedling cultivation center established in Guzar district as part of the nationwide Yashil Makon project.
Under the Presidential decree of September 23, 2026, measures have been outlined to strengthen the role of mahallas in greening and expanding green spaces based on the “3-30-300” principle. The new center is designed to grow high-quality seedlings based on the needs of mahallas, provide tree care and create employment opportunities for local residents.
The complex was built on 65 hectares using international best practices. The project cost 9.5 billion soums and created around 100 jobs.
Ornamental trees are grown on 50 hectares, fruit trees on five hectares, and shrubs and flowers on another three hectares. At the initial stage, the center plans to grow 1.6 million seedlings, with this figure set to increase to 5 million. A total of 41 varieties of ornamental and coniferous trees are cultivated at the center.
The complex includes open-air growing areas, a greenhouse, seed-germination facilities and shade structures for seedlings. Three membrane reservoirs with a total capacity of 4,200 cubic meters have been installed, while 20 hectares are equipped with drip irrigation. The center also uses equipment for producing compost and mulch, as well as solar panels.
Modern technologies enable seedlings to be grown year-round, including outside the traditional planting season. This approach is expected to increase production eight- to tenfold compared with conventional methods while reducing water consumption threefold. As a result, the cost of seedlings is expected to fall by 30-40 percent.
The center also provides a range of services to support the greening of mahallas, including the supply of seedlings and shrubs, treatment of damaged trees, soil mulching and the installation of drip irrigation systems. Going forward, a forestry specialist will be assigned to each mahalla, while members of the “mahalla seven” will receive training ahead of each planting season.
Local residents are also being involved in seedling cultivation. Under cooperation agreements, households are provided with young plants to grow on their plots. After one or two growing seasons, once the plants have developed into seedlings ready for planting, the center will guarantee their purchase. This will provide families with an additional source of income.
The Head of State reviewed the conditions created at the center and noted that planting trees and creating gardens are longstanding traditions of the Uzbek people.
The President was also briefed on the center’s potential to contribute to the greening of mahallas and increase household incomes.
