Large industrial enterprises will use renewable energy
On June 23, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on measures to provide large industrial enterprises with “green” energy.
In order to provide the country's economy with sustainable energy sources, green energy is developing at an accelerated pace in Uzbekistan. In a short time, almost $6 billion of foreign direct investment was attracted to this area. Electricity generation increased from 59 billion to 82 billion kilowatt-hours per year.
By 2030, Uzbekistan's population is expected to exceed 41 million people, and its economy will be worth $200 billion. This will require a significant increase in energy capacity. Therefore, measures are being taken to widely use renewable energy sources.
The presentation provided information on current projects and plans for the near future. The main priorities are the development of generation, modernization and increasing energy efficiency.
So, this year it is planned to launch 12 solar and 4 wind power plants, as well as 12 energy storage systems. The total investment in these projects is more than $5 billion, and the total capacity is about 9 billion kilowatt-hours. In addition, construction will begin on 11 more projects totaling $7.2 billion.
Along with the production of electricity, its rational use is important. The head of state has set the task of reducing losses and installing energy-efficient equipment, especially at large industrial enterprises.
18 economic sectors account for a third of the country's total electricity consumption. For example, water pumps alone use 6.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
This involves upgrading 12 large pumps with a 75-100 megawatt solar power plant and 50 megawatt storage system installed next to each pump. As a result, annual energy consumption by pumps will be reduced by 2 billion kilowatt-hours, from 6.5 to 4.5 billion. First of all, these works will begin on the Karshi main canal, where the cost of water supply is especially high.
Oil and gas industry enterprises also have the opportunity to annually generate at least 600 million kilowatt-hours of electricity through the installation of photovoltaic stations with a capacity of 240 megawatts and storage systems with a capacity of 300 megawatts.
In general, The meeting discussed measures to transfer 18 industries with high levels of energy consumption to an autonomous power supply system. Information was also presented on the work on the use of solar energy in social institutions.
