Prospects for further accelerating Uzbekistan–Pakistan cooperation in the textile sector were discussed in Islamabad
The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtayev, held a meeting with the Chairman of the Pakistan Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Tariq Mehmood Bhatti.
The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtayev, held a meeting with the Chairman of the Pakistan Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Tariq Mehmood Bhatti.
During the dialogue, the parties exchanged detailed views on further deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan in the textile industry, implementing joint investment projects, creating new opportunities for exporting finished textile products made in Uzbekistan to foreign markets, as well as introducing modern technologies and innovative solutions into the sector.
Ambassador Alisher Tukhtayev provided information on the large-scale reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan in recent years—from cotton cultivation and cotton processing to yarn production, fabric manufacturing, and the production of finished garments—aimed at establishing a fully integrated value chain in the textile industry. He also highlighted the Presidential decrees and decisions aimed at comprehensively supporting the sector and creating favorable conditions for foreign investors.
In particular, it was noted that the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated January 16, 2025, “On additional measures to develop the processing chain in the textile and sewing-knitwear industry,” is playing an important role in elevating the sector to a new stage of development. This document has created a solid foundation for expanding export potential, increasing the competitiveness of local products in international markets, and facilitating their broader access to external markets. It was also emphasized that the investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan’s textile and apparel industry has significantly increased.
The Pakistani side was provided with detailed information about the vast potential of Uzbekistan’s textile industry, including raw material resources, incentives and preferences offered to foreign investors, the favorable business environment, and investment projects ready for implementation. Special attention was given to opportunities for launching new joint projects on the basis of idle or underutilized enterprises.
In turn, Chairman Tariq Mehmood Bhatti stated that, amid ongoing global economic changes, members of the association are showing strong interest in the Uzbek market. According to him, factors such as favorable geographic location, historical and cultural proximity, a well-established and reliable business environment, and available investment opportunities play an important role in this regard.
“In recent years, Uzbekistan’s textile industry has become one of the leading drivers of the economy. These reforms are important not only for ensuring stable economic growth and improving public welfare, but also for attracting foreign investment. In particular, our association’s members are ready to establish and invest in joint ventures with Uzbek partners for the production of fabrics based on polyester and synthetic fibers,” he said.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to organize a working visit of a delegation from the Pakistan Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association to Uzbekistan. During the visit, it is planned to hold B2B negotiations with representatives of relevant government bodies, sectoral organizations, and industrial associations, as well as to visit major textile enterprises and industrial facilities.
For reference, the Pakistan Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association is a major industry organization that brings together around 400 companies and covers more than 3,000 manufacturers and exporters.
