Imam Maturidi complex undergoes major transformation

On the second day of his visit to Samarkand, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed ongoing development work at the Imam Maturidi memorial complex.

In accordance with a Presidential Decree, last year, Uzbekistan widely celebrated the 1,155th anniversary of the birth of Abu Mansur Maturidi — the founder of the Aqidah school in our country. In this regard, reconstruction and development work began at the Imam Maturidi Complex, located within the historic Chokardiza cemetery in Samarkand.

A mosque with a capacity of 250 people, a main entrance portal, a research center, a library, a museum, and a parking area are being built on the 26-hectare site.

During construction work at the Chokardiza cemetery, the burial site of the great Islamic jurist Burhaniddin Marginani was discovered, and a mausoleum is now being built in his honor.

Verses from the Holy Qur’an were recited in memory of the outstanding scholars.

Following the inspection, the Head of State noted that the complex is one of the key pilgrimage destinations for Muslims around the world and emphasized the need to create conditions that meet modern standards.

“A person visiting this complex should, first of all, gain a clear understanding of Imam Maturidi’s scientific and spiritual legacy, his standing in the Islamic world, and also feel that the enlightened views of this great scholar remain relevant today,” the President said.

Relevant officials were instructed to ensure the high-quality and timely completion of construction work, as well as to expand green spaces across the site.
