Economic Cooperation and Trade and Investment Ties Between Uzbekistan and Pakistan to Reach a New Level

Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev met with Haroon Akhtar Khan, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Minister for Industries and Production.
During the meeting, particular attention was paid to further developing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, as well as to economic cooperation, trade, investment, exports, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The parties reviewed in detail the progress being made in the practical implementation of the agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Pakistan on February 5–6 this year, aimed at advancing trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
Adviser to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized Pakistan’s interest in elevating economic relations with Uzbekistan to a new level, as well as further strengthening cooperation in trade, investment, exports, and tourism. According to him, the fraternal and friendly relations between the two countries provide a solid foundation for expanding mutually beneficial economic and trade ties.
The meeting also addressed ways to expand exchanges of mutual delegations, strengthen interregional cooperation and industrial collaboration, and accelerate work on bilateral international agreements scheduled to be signed in the near future. In this regard, the parties emphasized the importance of ensuring high-level organization of the forthcoming high-level visits, the Uzbekistan–Pakistan Business Forum, and the Interregional Forum, as well as focusing these events on achieving practical outcomes.
The parties noted the importance of establishing and developing direct air connectivity between Uzbekistan and Pakistan. As was emphasized, increasing the number of direct flights is becoming an important factor in strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries, including in the areas of trade and tourism.
One of the key topics of the discussions was the establishment of cargo flights between the two countries. Further improvement of air cargo transport and transit links will contribute to increasing bilateral trade and export volumes, as well as facilitating the transportation of goods between the two countries.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their firm commitment to continuing joint efforts to expand trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and to further strengthening their longstanding fraternal relations.
