Uzbekistan – Türkiye: practical stage of cooperation in the field of forestry
Today in Uzbekistan, as one of the priority areas of state policy, special attention is paid to expanding the area of forests, increasing the level of greening, mitigating the negative consequences of climate change and ensuring environmental sustainability.
In order to achieve effective results in these areas, it is relevant to study advanced foreign experience and put it into practice, taking into account the climatic conditions of our country. In this regard, the educational and practical seminar organized during the visit of a delegation of representatives of the Forestry Agency under the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change to the Republic of Turkey in October 2025 was of great importance.
During the seminar, organized jointly by the Forestry Agency and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Turkish Republic, participants got acquainted with Turkey's experience in creating forests, their restoration, environmental classification and sustainable management. In particular, on the first day of the seminar, Turkish specialist Ahmed Yalvac gave a detailed presentation of modern approaches used in the development of forestry.
During the practical visit, Turkey's best practices in creating and managing nurseries, creating forests in mountainous areas using the "terracing" method, creating "green belts" around cities, as well as organizing public green parks were studied in cities and regions.
Members of the delegation also got acquainted in detail with the activities of nurseries run by the Seydikemir and Gökova forestry departments in Muğla province. In particular, the Sejdikemir nursery, founded in 1983, covers an area of144 hectares and has the capacity to grow1.5 million seedlings per year, while the Gökova nursery, located on an area of over61 hectares, has the capacity to grow up to7 millionseedlings annually.
It was noted that special attention to the processes of collection, storage and laboratory analysis of seeds in these nurseries makes it possible to increase the level of growing high-quality seedlings and saplings to 90–95 percent. Participants studied the practical experience of Turkish specialists in creating mother plantations, caring for seedlings and seedlings, as well as carrying out grafting work.
Members of the delegation were familiarized with the work of greenhouses, in-vitro laboratories, experience in using modern technology and mechanisms for managing seasonal work processes. The processes of exchange of experience took place in the spirit of open dialogue and professional cooperation.
To summarize, we can say that cooperation between Uzbekistan and Turkey in the field of forestry is acquiring practical content, contributing to the development of best practices, increasing the potential of specialists and the formation of a sustainable environmental environment in our country. The knowledge and skills gained through this collaboration will be important in further improving the national forestry system.
