Uzbekistan – Pakistan: emphasis on the development of inter-parliamentary relations
On April 5, 2025, the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Nuriddin Ismoilov, met with a delegation led by the Chairman of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Yusuf Raza Gilani.
At the beginning of the dialogue, it was noted that as a result of the open, constructive and pragmatic foreign policy pursued by the leaders of the two countries, Uzbekistan and Pakistan have entered a qualitatively new stage of strategic partnership, relations between our countries are developing not only bilaterally, but also within the framework of international and regional organizations.
It is emphasized that the visit of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Pakistan in 2022, as well as the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif to our country in February this year, opened a new chapter in the development of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
At the meeting, guests were provided with detailed information about the Constitution in the new edition and large-scale reforms implemented within the framework of the “Uzbekistan - 2030", the structure of the Legislative Chamber, its activities in the legislative direction.
In turn, Y. Gilani expressed gratitude for the warm meeting and highly appreciated the democratic reforms being implemented in all areas in Uzbekistan on the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Attention is also paid to the issues of further development of relations between the two countries in various fields, in particular, interparliamentary cooperation.
“A very important and prestigious international summit is being held in Uzbekistan. This increases the authority of your country. It is a great opportunity for me to take part in this event. The mutually effective dialogue between the leaders of the two countries creates a favorable environment for socio-economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan to reach a new level,” said Yusuf Raza Gilani.
The parties noted that cooperative relations between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Pakistan are consistently developing, and parliaments play an important role in the implementation of agreements reached at high and senior levels, as well as in the creation of their legal framework.
It was emphasized that in order to strengthen relations between the two countries, it is necessary to create a direct and regular dialogue space between parliaments, further intensify activities interparliamentary friendship groups, exchange of experience in lawmaking, development of cooperation between parliamentary institutions, effective use of the opportunities of public diplomacy.

It is noted that the 150th The anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is taking place these days in Tashkent, will serve to strengthen cooperation between national parliaments and will remain in history, as it opens a new page in cooperation with the parliaments of the world.
