Uzbekistan and the UN will increase mutually beneficial cooperation
On the sidelines of the UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, a meeting was held between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Current issues of global and regional development were considered, including the upcoming 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly.
In this context, the leader of Uzbekistan expressed strong support for the initiatives of the Secretary-General to ensure international peace and stability, reform the UN and its main institutions to adapt them to modern realities.
Particular attention is paid to the further expansion of multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, the practical implementation of agreements reached during the visit of Antonio Guterres to our country in July last year.
It was noted with satisfaction that 160 joint programs and projects are currently being successfully implemented.
Over the past few years, at the initiative of Uzbekistan, 13 resolutions of the UN General Assembly have been adopted.
This year, the heads of key structures and institutions of the Organization, including UN-Habitat and UNICEF, visited Uzbekistan, and a representative office of UN Women opened in Tashkent.
Jointly held Public Service Forum. Active preparations are underway for the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand.
Our country is among the top five most progressive countries in the Global Sustainable Development Goals Index. It is expected that a new five-year cooperation program with the UN will be signed in the context of achieving the SDGs.
Issues of deepening integration in Central Asia and involving Afghanistan in regional cooperation processes were discussed.
Following the meeting, mutual readiness was confirmed to further increase practical interaction, expand joint programs and projects.
