Shavkat Mirziyoyev founded the National Museum of Uzbekistan
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid the first stone for the construction of the National Museum of Uzbekistan on August 27.
The independence of our country has become the foundation for the revival of national identity and the realization of noble aspirations. And the current Independence Day, as before, is marked by joyful events. One of these historical events was the beginning of the construction of the new National Museum.
During a visit to the construction site, the President was presented with information about the building project, its features and construction stages.
The museum was designed by the Japanese architectural bureau Tadao Ando Architect & Associates together with the German company Atelier Brückner. The architectural image combines a circle, square and triangle, symbolizing the harmony of the cultures of East and West. The complex will include a three-story museum, a two-level underground floor and auxiliary buildings. The general contractor for the construction is the Chinese company CSCEC International Construction.
A ceremony dedicated to the launch of construction was held in Tashkent. Cultural and artistic figures, scientists, writers, veterans and representatives of the public gathered in the square near the National Park of Uzbekistan.
Congratulating those gathered on the upcoming Independence Day, the President noted:
- Along with the development of all areas, we are making efforts to restore our values. We are building such grandiose complexes as the Center of Islamic Civilization, the Imam Bukhari Ensemble, and the Olympic Village. The main goal is for these buildings to become the property of the people. Today we are starting the construction of another historical site - the National Museum of Uzbekistan. This museum will become a center of science, education and culture, and will bring our three-thousand-year-old rich heritage to the people, the international community and future generations,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
As noted, today 30 museums in Tashkent house more than a million exhibits. Of these, 100 thousand belong to the State Museum of Art, but only 2.4 thousand are on display. More than 97 thousand rare works are in storage due to a lack of exhibition space.
– Unique works of art reflecting the culture of Central Asia, China, Japan, India and Europe are an invaluable asset not only of our people, but of all humanity. Preserving these values for future generations and demonstrating them to the world community is our sacred duty, the President emphasized.
Such a large-scale museum is being built for the first time in the history of our country. Its total area will be 40 thousand square meters. The most modern conditions will be created in the exhibition halls, library, restoration laboratories and storage facilities.
This will make it possible to combine in one place currently scattered exhibits from the capital's museums - ancient and modern works of art, historical objects. It will be possible to display up to 10 thousand exhibits here at the same time.
In addition, an area of 4 thousand square meters will house conference rooms, auditoriums, restaurants and children's playgrounds.
After commissioning, the museum will form a single architectural composition with the Abulkasim madrasah, the Palace of Peoples' Friendship and the National Park Uzbekistan. It will become a thematic tourist center, attractive for compatriots and foreign guests.
In the future, it is planned to establish close cooperation with the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum and other world-famous institutions, organize exhibitions and bring unique exhibits.
– I am confident that the complex under construction will demonstrate even more clearly the role of our country in world history and civilization. It will serve the people not just for one year or even a decade, but for many generations,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized at the end of his speech.
Then the head of state laid the capsule into the foundation, officially launching construction.
