Possibilities for the development of agro-industry in the Syrdarya region were considered
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on May 5 on organizing agriculture in the Syrdarya region based on new approaches.
Although the Syrdarya region is small in area, it has significant agricultural potential. The main cultivated areas are located along rivers and canals, the infrastructure is favorable for the development of the agricultural sector.
At the meeting, the results of the study carried out in the regions were analyzed, new proposals and plans were considered.
Proposals were made for growing crops taking into account soil and climatic characteristics, increasing the yield of wheat, vegetables and potatoes in the steppe regions.
In particular, it is planned to repair irrigation networks and return 20 thousand hectares of land to agricultural production within two years.
There are great opportunities for implementing food projects. Thus, in the Akaltyn, Gulistan and Bayaut regions it is planned to launch three large livestock complexes on 9 thousand hectares, to introduce new technologies for cultivating cotton on 7 thousand hectares.
Today there are 10 thousand hectares of orchards and vineyards in the region. However, more than half of them are outdated both in terms of varieties and agricultural technologies, and the products grown are not in demand on the market. Therefore, it is planned to renovate 2 thousand hectares of gardens, focusing on export-attractive varieties, and transfer the remaining plots to interested entrepreneurs.
This year, the project to reconstruct 607 kilometers of the Ung Tarmok inter-district canal and switch to digital control will be completed. This will save water by 35-40 percent and improve water supply on 27 thousand hectares.
The head of state approved the proposed measures and gave specific instructions to increase productivity, ensure employment in agriculture, meet domestic demand for food, develop processing and expand export potential.
