The President of Uzbekistan stated the importance of strengthening peace and trust to ensure sustainable development
On December 12 in Ashgabat, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the International Forum dedicated to the 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality Turkmenistan, the International Day of Neutrality and the declaration of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust.”
The event, chaired by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, was also attended by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of the Republic Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, as well as leaders of other states, heads of government and heads of international and regional organizations.
In his speech, the President of Uzbekistan, sincerely congratulating the Turkmen side on the 30th anniversary of permanent Neutrality, emphasized that this significant date personifies Turkmenistan’s unwavering commitment to the development of peaceful, trusting, friendly and mutually beneficial relations with all countries of the world.
– The neutrality of Turkmenistan, which has become part of the modern identity of the Turkmen people, is based on its deep historical traditions, cultural and spiritual values, such inherent noble qualities as generosity, tolerance and good neighborliness, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In this regard, the initiative of Turkmenistan to create a University of Peace and Neutrality together with the United Nations was supported.
The head of our state noted that for New Uzbekistan, openness to the world, mutual respect and the desire for dialogue are fundamental values. One evidence of this is the Samarkand Solidarity Initiative put forward by Uzbekistan in the name of common security and prosperity, aimed at involving in dialogue all those who strive for peace, harmony and sustainable development.
In addition, the main priorities of the upcoming chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, Uzbekistan intends to identify the promotion of a global movement in support of a culture of peace and non-violence, strengthening trust in relations between states on the basis of political dialogue, promoting the establishment of an atmosphere of tolerance, mutual understanding and solidarity in the world.
During the chairmanship, it is also planned to declare 2027 the Year of Preventive Diplomacy to support efforts to resolve conflicts in the interests of future generations. Within its framework, a program of events will be adopted, including the organization of conferences and forums, the exchange of parliamentary, public and youth delegations.
The President of our country noted the growing relevance of maintaining a universal commitment to the principles of peace and mediation in the current conditions of global tension and declining trust between states. That is why Uzbekistan supported Turkmenistan’s proposal to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, co-authoring the corresponding resolution of the UN General Assembly.
He also emphasized that the principles of mutual trust, respect and cohesion are the basis of the policy to transform Central Asia into a space of peace, cooperation and good neighborliness.
– The seventh Consultative meeting of the heads of state of the region, held last month in Tashkent, once again demonstrated our readiness to strengthen solidarity, joint actions to ensure peace and stability in the region, and expand multifaceted economic cooperation, said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In this context, the head of our state pointed out the special role of constructive and peace-loving policy of Turkmenistan in ensuring stability and development in Central Asia.
He expressed confidence that international initiatives and proposals of Turkmenistan, based on the noble ideas of peace and trust, will be worthy of reflection in the agenda of Ashgabat's chairmanship in the format of Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of the region.
Noting the importance of humanitarian interaction for strengthening cooperation, based on mutual respect, trust and solidarity, the leader of Uzbekistan proposed organizing an international humanitarian forum “Dialogue of Cultures” in Tashkent next year and launching a regional program “Youth for Peace and Trust.”
In conclusion, the head of our state emphasized Uzbekistan’s readiness to continue to make a constructive contribution to building a fair and stable world order.
