The President of Uzbekistan noted with satisfaction the results of a full-scale partnership with the World Bank
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the World Bank Group led by Managing Director for Operations Anna Bjerde on April 10.
The issues of further development of full-scale strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank were considered, primarily in matters of support by this global financial institution for the ongoing strategy of economic reforms in our country.
At the beginning of the meeting, Anna Bjerde conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes to the head of our state from the President of the World Bank Ajay Banga.
The highest level of productive partnerships achieved in recent years was noted with deep satisfaction.
Currently, Uzbekistan is one of the bank’s largest partners - the project portfolio exceeds $12 billion. The World Bank provides financial, advisory and technical support for the implementation of reforms aimed at ensuring sustainable development of priority sectors of the economy and the social sector.
With the assistance of the bank, a new procedure has been adopted to improve the mechanism, accelerate the preparation and improve the quality of projects with the participation of international financial institutions.
The priorities for further practical partnership include areas such as fighting poverty, primarily through creating jobs for women and youth, including in the tourism industry, support for the private sector and public-private partnership development programs, transformation and privatization of state-owned enterprises.
Particular attention was paid to joint plans in the field of decarbonization, urbanization and infrastructure modernization, increasing energy efficiency, improving the investment climate, facilitating the country's accession to the WTO.
There was also an exchange of views on issues promotion of major regional projects.
