The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation with the UN in the fight against desertification and land degradation

On the sidelines of the Samarkand Climate Forum, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Executive Secretary of the Convention against desertification by Ibrahim Thiau.
The distinguished guest conveyed to the leader of our state sincere greetings and best wishes from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Current issues of further development of cooperation with this authoritative UN structure in the field of combating desertification and land degradation in our country and region.
The UN representative highly appreciated the speech of the head of Uzbekistan at the forum, noting the relevance of the initiatives put forward to counter climate challenges and the timeliness of the presented Concept of “green” development of Central Asia.
The unanimous approval by the UN General Assembly in August last year of the resolution initiated by Uzbekistan on restoration was noted with satisfaction forests, as well as the beginning of the development of national goals to prevent land degradation.
It was agreed to involve Convention experts in the creation of an International Scientific Network to Combat Land Degradation and Desertification on the basis of the Green University in the city of Tashkent.
