President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Namangan region has commenced. Upon arrival, he reviewed the progress of the new passenger terminal at Namangan International Airport.
Uzbekistan is undertaking extensive efforts to modernize its transport infrastructure, with the expansion of Namangan International Airport being a key component of these reforms.
Construction is proceeding in accordance with the resolution of the President of Uzbekistan dated March 29, 2021, “On measures to develop public-private partnerships in the management of the republic’s airports”.
Namangan International Airport opened in 1971 and has been functioning as an international airport since 2013. Currently, nine airlines run scheduled flights from this airport.
The project has secured $175 million in investment. As scheduled, a new passenger terminal meeting modern international standards is set to open by the end of 2026. This three-storey terminal, covering 22,600 square meters, will serve over 1,200 passengers per hour and up to 3 million passengers annually. This development will significantly boost the airport’s capacity.
The new terminal will include border and customs control points, a visa service, a business lounge, retail and dining options, a medical center, and a duty-free shop. Consequently, 550 new jobs will be created.
A cargo terminal capable of handling 50 tonnes daily is scheduled to open by the end of 2027. It will create a modern, unified cargo system for Fergana Valley and enhance export opportunities to 90 countries worldwide.
The Head of State examined the construction progress in detail and outlined several tasks to enhance the airport’s infrastructure.
