On November 6, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended a meeting of Central Asian leaders on artificial intelligence security, held in Astana as part of the Aqaba Process.
The event was also attended by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, high-level representatives of Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, and other international guests.
The participants discussed international and regional security, efforts to counter terrorism and extremism, and emerging challenges and threats associated with the development of digital technologies.
The discussions also addressed ways to expand practical cooperation among countries, exchange experiences, and strengthen mechanisms to prevent radicalization, particularly among young people.
In his address, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highly appreciated the significance of the Aqaba Process amid growing threats to security and stability.
The Leader of Uzbekistan noted that the rapid development of artificial intelligence not only creates huge opportunities for humanity but also poses new challenges. In this regard, quality education and the creation of conditions for people to realize their full potential are considered an important foundation of security.
To harmonize the humanistic traditions of knowledge and enlightenment with the achievements of modern science, the President of Uzbekistan put forward an initiative titled "Digital Development for the Benefit of Humanity." Its main goal is to direct the potential of artificial intelligence toward spreading knowledge, strengthening mutual trust, and creating new opportunities for personal development.
The President also expressed support for the UN Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance.
To reinforce global efforts, Uzbekistan expressed its readiness to open a regional office of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. The office will provide practical support to Central Asian countries in establishing and operating channels for reporting terrorist content, detecting terrorist financing, training specialists, and effectively using artificial intelligence for these purposes.
The President of Uzbekistan also proposed launching an international program titled "Enlightenment Against Ignorance in the Digital Age" at the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent. Its main tasks will include creating multilingual resources, training religious figures to work in the information environment, and supporting young researchers who promote the humanistic values of Islam.
Concluding his address, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that the future of artificial intelligence depends not only on technological progress but also on the purposes for which it is used. He stressed that the common goal should be to turn new technologies not into a source of threats but into a powerful tool for ensuring peace, security, and human development.
