Plans for economic development of Andijan region were presented
The head of state was presented with information on the progress of the project.
The airport, built in 1978, no longer meets modern requirements. Due to the limited carrying capacity of the runway, the lack of a modern lighting system and other infrastructure, the airport had limited capacity to receive flights.
To date, the first stage of reconstruction has been completed. A new runway 3,300 meters long and 60 meters wide, a taxiway and aircraft parking areas have been built. The drainage system has been updated and groundwater has been eliminated. The construction of the second taxiway continues, as well as the installation of modern radar, meteorological and lighting equipment of CAT-II category in accordance with ICAO standards.
After completion of these works, the airport will be able to accommodate large Boeing and Airbus aircraft, including flights at night and in adverse weather conditions. This will increase the number of daily flights by 10 times.
At the second stage, construction of a new passenger terminal is planned. Capacity will increase from 300 to 1,000 passengers per hour, and the number of flights will increase from 584 to 3,700 per year. This will significantly expand the possibilities of air communication with the city of Andijan and the entire Fergana Valley.
Currently, the airport already operates regular flights on the route Tashkent - Andijan - Tashkent.
The President instructed to organize effective management of the airport, increase the availability of services and increase the number of both domestic and international flights.
In general, large-scale work is being carried out in the country to modernize airports. In recent years, airports in Samarkand, Termez, Urgench, Shakhrisabz, Muynak, Kokand and Zaamin have been updated. In a number of other regions, reconstruction continues.
