Increasing efficiency and rational use of energy resources
A study by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms showed a large-scale transition of households in Uzbekistan to energy-saving technologies. Widespread adoption of energy efficient solutions has enabled nearly 90% of households to implement at least one measure to reduce energy costs.
One of the key changes has been the widespread adoption of energy efficient solutions at the household level.
The most common practice has been installation of LED lighting fixtures. 87% of households switched to LEDlighting. In some regions, such as Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Navoi and Tashkent regions, such families have increased to more than 90%.
44% of households have improved the thermal insulation of windows and doorsby installing plastic structures, especially active in Kashkadarya region (84%), Bukhara (69%) and Khorezm (54%).
31% purchased energy-efficient household applianceswith the largest share of such solutions observed in Jizzakh (60%), Navoi (59%) and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (54%).
Additionally, there is a growing interest in the use of renewable sources energy.
More than half of the owner families expressed satisfaction with the results and interest in expanding generation.
The analysis shows that the potential demand for solar panels among the population is about 1.9 million households, which opens up prospects for the formation of a domestic market worth over $2.3 billion.
At the same time, the share of consumption through less efficient heating sources, including outdated gas boilers and stoves using solid fuel remains maintained.
Potential for improving the energy efficiency of buildings
It is estimated that insulating the exterior walls of apartment buildings, upgrading heating systems, and replacing doors and windows could save more than $60 million per year.
According to World Bank estimates, similar potential exists in social institutions, medical organizations, preschools and public schools. Targeted investments in improving the energy efficiency of these facilities can reduce energy consumption by 20–50%, which is equivalent to reducing consumption by up to 7.1 billion kWh per year.
Thus, the measures taken in our country to improve energy efficiency serve as an important factor in economic growth.
