The youth of Uzbekistan are the golden generation, destined to write a new page in the history of the country
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke at a meeting on the occasion of June 30 - Youth Day. Congratulating the youth of Uzbekistan on the holiday, the head of state expressed faith in the talent of the younger generation and admiration for its successes.
It was noted that the conditions created in the country for young people are already bringing real results. Last year, Uzbekistan ranked first in Central Asia in terms of the number of students enrolled in the top 500 universities in the world. Today, 30 boys and girls are studying at universities from the top 10, 500 people are in the top 100, and 1.5 thousand are in the top 300.
Along with success in education, Uzbek youth show outstanding results in sports and culture. We are particularly proud of the national football team, which for the first time in history received a ticket to the World Cup.
– If the eras of the first and second Renaissance were created by great thinkers, today history is passing the baton to the young. You are able to raise the flag of Uzbekistan high in a variety of areas. You are the golden generation, which, as the creator of New Uzbekistan, is destined to write a new page in history,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Particular attention is paid to youth access to quality education, mastering foreign languages and modern professions.
As part of the “One Million Programmers” project, 325 thousand young people have already completed training. Last year alone, 150 thousand young people received international language certificates - twice as many as in 2023.
In 2025, 8.3 thousand projects worth $35 billion will be implemented, which will create 292 thousand jobs. In the future, there are projects worth $83 billion and the creation of half a million new jobs. This will require thousands of specialists in areas such as the green economy, industry, energy, engineering and geology.
During the meeting, the President put forward important initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for young people.
By Decree of the President, the Beruni International School was established, where the best graduates of 8th grade will study in depth in three areas. In addition, 3 thousand of the most promising schoolchildren will be selected annually, of which at least 300 are from needy families, to prepare for admission to leading universities such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell.
For those who enter prestigious foreign universities, but do not have a full scholarship, a new support system is provided from the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation. Quotas are increasing in priority areas - science, technology, energy, architecture, agriculture. Commercial banks will begin issuing soft loans to young people of up to $20,000 for studying at universities from the top 300.
Special attention is paid to the development of artificial intelligence. 100 projects will be implemented in priority sectors - finance, medicine, agriculture and energy. In collaboration with the UAE, the “One Million Leaders in Artificial Intelligence” program is launching.
AI training programs will be updated jointly with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and computer science teachers from all regions will undergo special training at the New Uzbekistan University.
120 startup projects were selected in the “Digital Generation: Girls” competition in the fields of education, artificial intelligence, green economy and climate change, developed by 7 thousand female students. This year the project will cover at least 50 thousand girls.
A startup support system has been created, within which $145 million in venture capital has already been invested. In the near future, the volume of investments will reach $1 billion. An “hour of craftsmanship and business” is being introduced in schools, within the framework of which grants worth 100 billion soums will be allocated for the implementation of student ideas in the form of startups.
A competition “Best Creative Idea” will be held annually between universities, the winners of which will receive grants from university funds in the amount of up to 300 million soums.
To turn startups into prototypes and to carry out their testing, the Innovation Agency and the IT Park will open a Research and Development Center. Up to 50 thousand dollars of expenses for creating prototypes of the best projects will be covered by the Youth Venture Fund.
A system of professional development of young people employed in industry, services, entrepreneurship and agriculture will also be created. For each area of professions, it is planned to hold republican competitions among young people with equal participation of state enterprises and the private sector.
Industry leaders will annually select 100 young specialists for foreign internships, for which 10 billion soums will be allocated from the funds of each industry.
Two separate programs have been adopted to promote the employment of school graduates and students. In this regard, Aloqabank and the National Bank received resources worth $300 million. As part of the Youth Business program, 100 thousand young people will be employed, and 140 thousand university graduates will be employed under the Step into the Future program.
The Ministry of Employment, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Bank will launch a platform connecting graduates of universities, technical schools and vocational colleges with employers by the end of the year. An electronic “Income in Motion” system will also be introduced, which will attract 3 million young people during the holidays to activities that do not require qualifications.
Over the past seven years, the composition of the management workforce has significantly rejuvenated: the share of managers under the age of 40 has grown from 37 to 65 percent. Last month, a Presidential decree was signed on the training of promising personnel and their involvement in the public administration system.
At the Academy of Public Administration, 100 gifted young people will annually study under the “Leaders of the Future” program. They will be assigned mentors from among ministers and khokims, and foreign internships will be provided. Graduates of the program will become prime candidates for leadership positions.
Cultivating a love of books, art and culture plays an important role in the development of youth. The winners of the relevant competitions will perform in schools in remote areas. For this purpose, khokimiyats were instructed to provide one bus each.
The winners of republican competitions will be provided with benefits when entering universities of culture and art. The winners of the regional stage of the Iktidor school ensemble competition will be able to study for free in children's art and music schools.
The issue of instilling patriotism among young people and protecting them from harmful influences remains relevant. The recently opened “Patriots of the Nation” monument in the Victory Park in Tashkent serves precisely this purpose. It immortalizes the names of 196 heroically killed military personnel and law enforcement officers who gave their lives for the peace and tranquility of the Motherland. It is noted that visiting this sacred place strengthens young people’s sense of love and devotion to their native country.
The youth policy of Uzbekistan has been highly praised at the international level. Our country is among the ten states that are most actively implementing the UN Youth 2030 Strategy. According to the youth development index, Uzbekistan is recognized as the most dynamically developing state.
The city of Bukhara received the status of the youth capital of the Turkic world, and Tashkent - the youth capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
These days the Global Youth Festival is being held in the country. It was noted that this forum has become an effective platform for exchanging experiences and strengthening international cooperation among young people.
The President emphasized that he is proud of the knowledge and talent of our youth.
– Every achievement of yours is an achievement of our entire people. Your determination, healthy outlook, happiness and success are the happiness of millions of parents, mentors, and loved ones,” said the head of state.
