On April 20–21 of this year, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev paid a working visit to the Punjab province of Pakistan, one of the country’s most industrially and economically developed regions.
During the visit, he toured the company “Diamond Export Industries,” which operates in the region, and became closely acquainted with its activities, production processes, and export potential.
As part of the visit, negotiations were also held with the company’s head, Khurram Shahzad. During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on further developing mutually beneficial economic cooperation, particularly expanding industrial cooperation in Uzbekistan and exploring opportunities for implementing joint projects.
During the discussions, Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev provided detailed information about the large-scale economic reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan in recent years, the favorable business environment created in the country, and the strong legal framework aimed at comprehensively supporting foreign investors. He also emphasized the opportunities offered by free economic zones, including tax and customs incentives, developed infrastructure, and favorable conditions created for investors.
The interlocutors discussed promising investment projects planned for implementation in Uzbekistan, especially opportunities for cooperation in the textile and light industry sectors. It was noted that cooperation in this area would be beneficial for both sides.
Khurram Shahzad, the head of the company, provided information about the investment project being implemented by “Diamond Export Industries” in the “Namangan” Free Economic Zone in Namangan region. According to him, the project предусматривает the establishment of a modern industrial complex specializing in the production of competitive textile products for both domestic and foreign markets.
“In 2023, during the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Namangan region, we presented this project,” said Khurram Shahzad. “In the fourth quarter of 2024, work began to move the project into the implementation phase. Preparatory work necessary to begin construction and installation activities has been carried out on the land plot allocated through an auction. To date, an investment of 1 million US dollars has been made into the project. We are interested in the successful implementation of this project, and our plans in this regard are serious and long-term.”
During the meeting, particular attention was paid to accelerating the implementation of this investment project and promptly resolving emerging organizational and technical issues. It was also emphasized that establishing close cooperation with relevant government agencies and organizations during the project implementation process is important.
At the conclusion of the negotiations, practical steps were outlined. In particular, it was agreed to organize a separate meeting with representatives of the Agency for the Development of Light Industry of Uzbekistan in order to accelerate the construction project of the textile complex being implemented by “Diamond Export Industries” in Namangan region.
Within the framework of this dialogue, issues related to more effective implementation of the project, finding prompt solutions to existing problems, and elevating cooperation to a new level will be considered.
