Infographic: Uzbekistan's trade with South Asian countries in 2024
In recent years, trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the countries of South Asia has intensified significantly. The main changes in Uzbekistan's trade with the countries of the region over the past year are reflected in the infographics prepared by CERR.
The volume of trade between Uzbekistan and the countries of South Asia over 8 years (from 2016 to 2024) increased by 2.5 times.
In 2024, the total volume Uzbekistan's foreign trade with the countries of South Asia amounted to$2.6 billion. Over the same period, Uzbekistan's exports to this region increased by 2.3 times ($1.5 billion), and imports by 2.9 times ($1.1 billion).
Uzbekistan's main exports to South Asia include:electricity for $91 million, petroleum products for $175 million, transport services for $200 million, legumes crops for $250 million and flour for $328 million.
The main import items from South Asian countries are:pharmaceutical products for $324 million, machinery and equipment - $234 million, beef - $124 million, chemical products - $86 million, textiles and clothing - $65 million.
In 2024, the main share of trade turnover withAfghanistan (41.9%of the total trade volume) fell on the exports of Uzbekistan, which makes Afghanistan a profitable trade and economic partner, taking first place in terms of the volume of trade turnover of Uzbekistan with the countries of South Asia - $1.1 billion. Export of fruits and vegetables to Afghanistan amounted to67.6 thousand tonsto the amount of$124.4 million(share - 3.3%).
Trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan andIndiahas also actively developed in recent years. India tooksecond placein terms of Uzbekistan’s trade volume with South Asian countries. In 2024, the volume of foreign trade between the two countries amounted to $981 million.
Pakistan ranks third in terms of trade volume with South Asian countries. In 2024, Uzbekistan's exports to Pakistan included: food products worth $192.6 million, industrial goods - $57.7 million, services - $41.6 million, textile raw materials - $4.5 million, silk products - $5 million and chemical products worth $1.8 million.
At the same time, the main share in the structure of exports was made up food products - 64.4%, industrial goods - 19.3%, services - 14% and textile raw materials - 1.6%.
Imports from Pakistan in 2024 included: chemical products - $43.6 million, food products - $30.9 million, textile products - $5.7 million, base metal products - $5.4 million, machinery and equipment - $3 million and transport services - $1.7 million.
At the same time, the main share in the import structure was: medicines - 33.7%, potatoes - 8.2%, shampoos, soap and other hygiene products - 5.7%, textiles - 5.4%, sesame seeds - 2.8%, machinery and equipment - 2.8%, rice - 1.9% and products made of base metals - 5.1%.
The volume of foreign direct investment and loans from South Asian countries to Uzbekistan over 8 years amounted to $703.6 million. The largest contribution was made by Afghanistan - $331.8 million and India - $308 million.
