Report on progress in accession to the World Trade Organization
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 14 got acquainted with the progress of Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization and measures to accelerate this process.
This process has been carried out since 2023 under the special control of the head of state. Over the past period, Uzbekistan has achieved concrete results in multilateral and bilateral negotiations.
In particular, four meetings of the Working Group were held, at which over 500 issues were considered. In order to intensify the process, systemic reforms are being implemented in the areas.
Within the framework of the bilateral track, negotiations were held with 33 countries on market access issues, of which negotiations with 24 countries were successfully completed.
WTO members positively assess the new approach and the results of reforms in Uzbekistan, which confirms the country’s strong commitment to openness, transparency and fairness. trade.
Large-scale legal and institutional reforms are being implemented as part of bringing national legislation into line with the organization's requirements. In particular, 13 laws, 10 decrees and resolutions of the President, 19 resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers and 10 interdepartmental regulations were adopted.
Procedures in the field of customs regulation, export-import operations and intellectual property were gradually harmonized. The exclusive rights of six enterprises with state participation have been cancelled.
During the meeting, the head of state gave specific instructions to accelerate and systematically organize the process of accession to the WTO.
In particular, by the end of this year it is necessary to complete bilateral negotiations with the remaining 9 countries, hold two more meetings of the Working Group and complete the preparation of the draft final report of the Working Group, thereby securing the international obligations of Uzbekistan within the WTO.
The need to accelerate the adoption of about 15 regulatory legal acts, including the development of new editions of the laws "On quality and safety of food products", "On protective measures, anti-dumping and countervailing duties" in close and effective cooperation with the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
The importance of reforms in technical regulation, sanitary, phytosanitary and veterinary areas, as well as improving the quality of training in these areas, was especially noted.
