In recent years, the number of people regularly practicing taekwondo in Uzbekistan has nearly doubled, reaching 35,000. At the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, Uzbekistan’s athletes secured an honorable third place in the overall team standings in this sport.
During the meeting, Choue Chung-won highly praised Uzbekistan’s reforms aimed at accelerating sports development, promoting physical activity among youth, and building modern infrastructure.
The sides discussed expanding cooperation, including the training of professional athletes and referees, the exchange of best practices in advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, and sports medicine, as well as the regular hosting of prestigious international competitions in Uzbekistan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the President of Uzbekistan awarded Choue Chung-won the high state award — the Order of “Dustlik” — in recognition of his contributions to promoting taekwondo in Uzbekistan and strengthening friendship and solidarity among nations through sport.
In turn, Choue Chung-won presented President Shavkat Mirziyoyev with the World Taekwondo Federation’s highest personal award — the “Honor and Glory” Order — for his significant contribution to the development of sport.
It was emphasized that this is the first time the order has been awarded to the President of Uzbekistan, reflecting international recognition of the country’s large-scale reforms in sports development, particularly in taekwondo, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among youth.
