Presidents of Uzbekistan and Finland discuss prospects of expanding multifaceted cooperation

On October 31, a solemn welcoming ceremony was held at the “Kuksaroy” residence for the President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb, who is currently on an official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
National flags of both countries were raised on the square in front of the residence, and a guard of honor was lined up.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly greeted the distinguished guest and invited him to the podium.
The national anthems of Uzbekistan and Finland were played. The heads of state reviewed the honor guard and introduced members of their official delegations to each other.
After the official ceremony and a joint photo session, summit talks with the participation of both delegations began.

Talks between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb, with the participation of official delegations, took place at the “Kuksaroy” residence.
Prospects for further strengthening the multifaceted Uzbek-Finnish partnership, primarily in the political, trade and economic, investment and humanitarian spheres, were reviewed in detail.
The dynamic development of political dialogue and exchanges at various levels, as well as the intensification of business contacts, were noted with satisfaction.
The volume of mutual trade has been steadily increasing, economic and business ties are strengthening. The Nordic University, established in cooperation with Finland, is successfully operating in Uzbekistan, programs in the field of school education are being implemented.
As a result of the Uzbek-Finnish business forum held today, a portfolio of promising joint projects worth over 1 billion euros has been formed.
During the talks, opportunities to significantly increase trade turnover, including through the establishment of a joint Trade finance fund aimed at promoting mutual supplies, were reviewed. Initiatives to open certification laboratories to facilitate the entry of Uzbek agricultural and textile products into the European Union market were supported.
Priority attention was given to expanding cooperation in such key areas as geology and critical materials, energy, agriculture, digitalization, artificial intelligence, environmental protection, tourism and other fields.
Agreements were reached to hold the next meeting of the Intergovernmental commission in 2026 and establish a Business council. Mutual interest in expanding interregional cooperation was expressed.
Issues of cooperation in the fields of education, healthcare, and labor migration, were also considered. The first Forum of rectors and innovations is planned to be held next year.
The Presidents exchanged views on current issues of the regional and international agenda.

As a result of negotiations held in the city of Tashkent, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb signed a Joint declaration.
In the presence of the leaders, a ceremony was also held on signing a package of bilateral documents, including those providing for:
- the development of trade and economic relations;
- cooperation in the field of mineral extraction;
- cooperation in geological sciences, geological exploration, the search for mineral resources, groundwater and mining;
- support for the development of digital transformation, innovation and digital connectivity;
- cooperation in the field of social protection;
- cooperation on implementing a digital education platform in the system of preschool and school education;
- cooperation in the sphere of education, science and innovation;
- increasing scientific and education potential in the sphere of digitalization and water resources’ management;
- cooperation in the field of climate change and environmental protection.
