On April 4, as part of the Samarkand Climate Forum program, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Tatiana Molcean, UN Under-Secretary-General/Executive Secretary of UNECE.
The distinguished guest conveyed the sincere greetings and warm wishes of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the President of Uzbekistan.
The Head of state highlighted the key role played by the Commission in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, as well as its expert support in areas such as transport, innovation, the textile industry, energy, environmental protection, gender equality, and Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization.
The meeting also focused on the implementation of regional and national projects, as well as the practical advancement of the initiatives proposed by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the first summit of the United Nations Special Programme for Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), held in Baku in November 2023.
The adoption of the SPECA Development Concept through 2030, proposed by the Uzbek side, the signing of a roadmap with the UNECE on trade facilitation, and the consistent implementation of measures aimed at digitalization and document exchange within the framework of the Trans-Caspian Corridor was welcomed with satisfaction.
At the beginning of the year, with the support of the Commission, Uzbekistan acceded to the Aarhus Convention, which provides access to reliable environmental information for the public.
Accession to the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution and the Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents is currently under consideration.
