Leaders of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan hold a telephone conversation

On August 9, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The President of Uzbekistan warmly congratulated the Leader and the brotherly people of Azerbaijan on the historic event – the signing, the day before in Washington, of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Confidence was expressed that the prompt official conclusion of a peace agreement would be of great importance for ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the South Caucasus.
Current issues of further developing and strengthening the strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan were also discussed in the context of implementing the agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan in July this year.
Fruitful contacts and exchanges at all levels continue. Since the beginning of the year, trade turnover has increased by 30 percent. A portfolio of promising cooperation projects in various sectors of the economy is being formed based on a roadmap. Practical work is underway within the framework of the signed Production Sharing Agreement on a strategic project in the oil and gas sector.
The leaders also reviewed the schedule of upcoming high-level meetings and events.
