President of Uzbekistan highlights opportunities for partnership development with UN-Habitat

On April 4, on the sidelines of the Samarkand Climate Forum, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Anacláudia Rossbach, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
The head of the UN’s leading agency in the field of urban development conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the President of Uzbekistan.
Issues related to developing a multifaceted partnership with this reputable UN institution were discussed, particularly in the areas of sustainable urban development, infrastructure modernization, and enhancing the quality of life.
The high-ranking UN representative gave a positive assessment of the reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan in urbanization, focusing on the sustainable development of smart and green cities, as well as creating a comfortable living environment for the population.
The importance of enhancing cooperation in implementing modern digital solutions for urban management, developing green building standards, and launching a special program for climate change adaptation in urban environments was emphasized.
Discussions also included the organization of World Cleanup Day in Uzbekistan and the opening of a UN-Habitat office in Tashkent. An agreement was reached to adopt a roadmap outlining key areas for practical cooperation.
