The members of the Commission, together with the Jokorgy Kenes (Supreme Council), appealed to the General Prosecutor’s Office with a request to replace the measure of restraint of some citizens with a more lenient one
As has been previously reported, the Commission, independently investigating the events in Karakalpakstan, compiled a list of citizens who repent of their actions, have minor dependents, as well as those who have difficult family and social conditions and are the sole breadwinners in their families.
During the one-on-one interview, they have expressed that they have been influenced by false information, poorly understanding the situation, and sincerely regretted their actions. Especially, the women reported that they missed their children very much and drew the right conclusions from the past events.
The Jokorgy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan supported the proposal to assign the deputies of local district councils to the persons on the list formed by the members of the Commission based on a social guarantee.
Based on the above, the Commission and the Jokorgy Kenes submitted a proposal to the Prosecutor General’s Office to replace the measure of restraint in the form of imprisonment with public control and house arrest of the citizens, who repent of their actions, have minor dependents, as well as those who have difficult family and social conditions and are the sole breadwinners in their families, on the principle of humaneness.
We recall that, in accordance with the relevant Regulations, the Commission is entitled to receive any information and circumstances that it deems necessary to examine the opinion of the population and the public, without interference by state authorities in its activities.
