Meeting of foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan and Pakistan
On July 29, 2022, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States.
The Pakistani delegation noted that the meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers in Tashkent was very successful and at a high organizational level, becoming the final stage in preparation for the main event in the Organization's activities this year – the SCO Summit in Samarkand. It was noted that the Pakistani side fully supports the initiatives and proposals put forward by Uzbekistan within the framework of the chairmanship of the Organization.
The current state and prospects of further development of Uzbekistan – Pakistan relations in various spheres were considered. An agreement was reached to take joint measures to intensify political dialogue, increase trade-economic cooperation and expand cultural-humanitarian exchanges.
To develop economic diplomacy, the importance of facilitating trade and customs procedures on a reciprocal basis, resuming air traffic between the two countries, and implementing investment projects in various sectors of the economy was noted.
Proposals for enhancing ties in culture, education and tourism have been studied.
Issues of the world and regional politics, including the situation in Afghanistan, were discussed. The Foreign Minister of Pakistan noted with satisfaction the fruitful results of the conference on Afghanistan held recently in Tashkent, which provided a platform for constructive international dialogue on the Afghan issue.
